This week Susanne Nielsen visits a small gallery in the Southern part of Germany , in Goeppingen,  where gallery owner Brigitta Mauch shows the paintings of her late mother, the painter Margret Hofheinz-Doering . The two sat among the happy paintings of the artist, yellow and green, red and blue, smiling faces and little birds and flowers, the happy paintings that speak of a happy life.

                                                Margret ins Bilderbuch geschaut

                                                    Blame it on the Bavarians!

The first-ever Oktoberfest was held in 1810 in
the Bavarian capital of Munich, Germany

It was supposed to be a one-time event
the original Oktoberfest was basically a month-long
wedding bash marking the nuptials of
Bavaria's Crown Prince Ludwig, (later King Ludwig I)
and Princess Therese of Saxe-Hildburghausen
but everyone had so much fun that they decided
to hold one the following year.

And the year after that. And the year after that....

Eventually the rest of the world realized how much
Fun the Germans were having, which is why
beer lovers everywhere now look forward
to October with the same sense of anticipation
and excitement that baseball

Juni 1994 in Bad Boll.

Juni 1994 in Bad Boll.

Ausgezeichneter deutscher Film jetzt in US Kinos!

Sehenswert!

Was daraus geworden ist?

The Gift - Das Geschenk.

Irrational Man

Ricki and the Flash

End of the Tour. Sehenswert! My Dinner with Andre" erinnert.

Trainwreck! Sommerfilm fuer Frauen, herrlich!
Woody Allen spinnt Geschichten...

Wunderbar!! Seit "Being John Malkowich" nichts mehr so Merkwuerdiges gesehen, Kinospass fuer Andersdenkende. Lief Sommer 2014 in Deutschland , jetzt in den USA.

AMskills apprenticeship training launched for high school & College age students
New Port Richey, FL

The American Manufacturing Skills Initiative (AMskills) officially launched on July 13th in Pinellas, Pasco and Hernando Counties, beginning with a 4-week Apprenticeship Orientation program.  Thirty-eight student apprentice candidates attended the Summer program at 3 of the 5 AMskills training centers including Pinellas Technical College in Clearwater, Marchman Technical College in New Port Richey, and the AMskills Training Center in Hernando.

Apprenticeship candidates, ages 16-22, completed a German-style apprenticeship orientation program earning 160 hours towards a German IHK Certificate. The AMskills apprenticeship program applies rigorous and intensive hands-on skills training to help students prepare for apprenticeship selection by local manufacturers. The German-style apprenticeship program emphasizes a blend of academic theory learned at their schools with practical experience learned at AMskills training centers and sponsoring companies. AMskills works with local manufacturers to help screen and prepare the students to obtain sponsored apprenticeships with local manufacturers, potentially leading to a permanent job.
The summer program concluded at the AMskills Regional Headquarters on August 7 with a Summer Graduation Ceremony recognizing and celebrating the accomplishments of the potential apprentice candidates.

Manufacturing partners,  such as Pharmaworks, Oscor, Kramski, MasterCut, Seaway, Alumi-Guard, BTI, H&S Swanson, Prima Die Casting, BIC Graphics, SMT, RUAG and others will be reviewing the evaluations  of the students’ performances  and plan to  offer apprenticeship  opportunities to selected candidates during the month of September.  The  candidates are scheduled  to begin their apprenticeships at the end of September  when AMskills launches the first 10 week semester of the the apprenticeship program. Apprentices will receive hands-on practical training at the AMskills training centers while attending high school or college, as well as working as an employee for the local manufacturers partnering in this program.

Described as possessing a soprano that is both “gleaming and glorious” soprano Jennifer Black will make her Sarasota Opera debut as Lida, the source of conflict between the two warriors. Arrigo, Lida’s former lover thought dead, will be sung by Martín Nusspaumer (La bohème), and Rolando, Lida’s husband, will be sung by Todd Thomas (Tosca, Attila). Together with Verdi’s monumental Aida, this tale of love, broken friendship, and war will help close the Verdi Cycle.

ABOUT SARASOTA OPERA
Based in Florida’s beautiful Gulf Coast, Sarasota Opera is approaching its 55th consecutive season.  In 1960, the company began presenting chamber-sized repertoire in the historic 320-seat Asolo Theater on the grounds of Sarasota’s Ringling Museum of Art. Recognizing the need for a theater more conducive to opera, the company purchased the former A.B. Edwards Theater in downtown Sarasota in 1979 and first performing in it in 1984 as the Sarasota Opera House. The theater has just undergone a $20-million renovation and rehabilitation enhancing audience amenities, while updating the technical facilities including increasing the size of the orchestra pit. The theater, which reopened in March 2008, has been called “one of America’s finest venues for opera” by Musical America.

Since 1983 the company has been under the artistic leadership of Victor DeRenzi. Since then the company has garnered international attention with its Masterwork Revivals Series, which presents neglected works of artistic merit, as well as the Verdi Cycle producing the complete works of Giuseppe Verdi. Recognizing the importance of training, Maestro DeRenzi founded the Apprentice Artist and Studio Artist programs. Sarasota Opera also maintains a commitment to education through its Invitation to Opera performances for local schools and the unique Sarasota Youth Opera program.

Sarasota Opera is sponsored in part by the State of Florida, Department of State, Division of Cultural Affairs, the Florida Arts Council, and the National Endowment for the Arts. Programs are supported in part by an award the Tourist Development Tax through the Board of County Commissioners, the Tourist Development Council and the Sarasota County Arts Council. Additional funding is provided by the City of Sarasota and the County of Sarasota.
