Kulturspiegel October 27, 2013 - Ein Interview mit der Schweizer Bildhauerin Ruth Baldinger

Ein Interview mit Ruth Baldinger, Schweizer Bildhauerin

                                                            Bildhauerin Ruth Baldinger

Bill: In this week’s show visit a Swiss artist, Ruth Baldinger whose exhibition with an interesting group of women artists Susanne Nielsen visited this summer, Ruth spoke about her sculptures, many made of stone and later made with a mixture of concrete and wire . Her sometimes serious and more recently, playful pieces are kinetic, parts of them can be rearranged by the work’s new owner.

We would like to also invite you to join us at the opening of the Sarasota opera season, where Die Fledermaus , Johann Strauss Jr’s famous light opera will begin the season on November first.

Sarasota Opera: Fledermaus naechste Woche! November 1, 20:00 uhr Premiere!

Bill's Moment in German Cultural History

Bill und Susanne vor der Oper

- In 1787, Mozart's opera, Don Giovanni, has it's first performance in Prague.
- In 1825, we see the birth of Johann Strauss II. He was a composer of dance music, operettas, waltzes and polkas. He was known as the "Waltz King."(der Walzerkoenig)
- In 1899, we see the death of Ottmar Mergenthaler. He invented the linotype machine.
- In 1918 we see the death of Cesar Ritz. He was a restaurant and hotel owner. He opened two hotels, one in Paris and one in London, known as the Ritz Hotel.
- Also in 1918, a mutiny of German sailors ends the German Navy's portion of WWI.
- In 1920, the League of Nations makes its headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland.

- And according to German folklore, if it rains on October 31st, St Wolfgang's Day, it is regarded as a promising good year

ST.
