Heritage Day 2012: March 25th!
The 20th Heritage Day event of the United German-American Society of Florida will take place on Sunday, March 25, 2012, at the Wyndham Resort in Orlando.Doors will open at 11:00 a.m. with the event ending at 6 p.m.Dinner will be served starting at 11:30; the planned entertainment, including the Parade of Flags will commence at 1 p.m. Manny Daum & Co and Alex Meixner will provide the musical entertainment for your dancing pleasure.
The Florida Schuhplattler groups will also present individual and combined dances.

March 8: Viennese Delights – Coffee Series
This matinee concert features Strauss Jr's Tritsch Tratsch Polka, Mozart's The Marriage of Figaro Overture, Lehar's The Merry Widow Overture. Guests will be treated to complimentary coffee and Krispy Kreme doughnuts as well as a pre-concert conversation one hour before the performance. Conducted by Stuart Malina.

St. Petersburg Opera presents:
Samson and Delilah
Premiere dieser Oper von Saint Saens fand Freitag, den 2. Maerz, 2012 statt. Vor einer Kulisse aus kargen Steinen und einer Rampe links und Steintreppe rechts, die das Gemach oder einen Tempelvorbau simulierten, agierten Samson, der starke Israelit und Dalilah, die Philisterin, die ihn um sein Geheimnis bringt und das mit einer warmen Mezzo-Sopranstimme zum Ausdruck brachte. Tenor Jon Morrell traegt zusammen mit dieser Dalilah den Hauptteil der Oper, stimmgewaltig und kraeftig, haengt alles an dieser Figur. Der hervorragende Opernchor unterstuezt Samson und treibt die Handlung erzaehlerisch voran. Alles leitet zu der farbenreichen und gut choreographierten Baccanale im dritten Akt der Oper, wo sich Samsons Schicksal und damit der Hoehepunkt auch in dieser Oper offenbart. Das Finale brachte Ovationen fuer Jon Morrell als Samson, der die Tempelsaeulen und Gemueter im Tiefsten zu erschuettertn verstand.
Wieder einmal eine erstaunliche Leistung der relativ jungen St. Pete Opera, die sich an Opern wie diese traut und mit Maestro Sworzini einen eleganten und fuehrungsstarken musikalischen Leiter hat. Sein Orchester , besonders von Meister seines Faches John Shaw in dieser Percussion-starken Musik unterstuetzt, besteht aus vielen Mitgliedern des Florida Orchesters, was seine Qualitaet auszeichnet.
Man darf auf die kommende Saison gespannt sein, nachdem die Sommerauffuehrung die jetzige Saison abschliesst. Wieder mit dabei Juliana Tauschinger-Dempsey, die wir bereits in unserer Sendung interviewt haben.

Passion and sexual desire collide with politics and religion in this most popular grand opera by Camille Saint-Saëns.
Based on the Biblical story from the Book of Judges, Hebrew leader Samson is seduced by Dalila, a vengeful spurned Philistine. Dalila's seduction arias are star vehicles, as is Samson’s rousing call to the Hebrews to rise up against their oppressors. The orchestra and dancers get the spotlight in the Bacchanale, a third act extravaganza in which the Philistines indulge in wild merriment before Samson ultimately proves that they are terrible architects and builders.
