The Cultural Center for German Language invites you to its 2013 programs.
The Cultural Center offers monthly programs to its members, organizes events and group excursions to cultural venues such as museums, theaters with exhibitions, opera, music often paired with optional visits to European restaurants all in the spirit of sharing German, and German speaking heritage in a variety of cultural settings.
Shared events with other German-American organizations like the German American Society Pinellas, the German American Social Club of New Port Richey, the German American Society of Florida and the Richard Wagner Society and events from opera, classical concerts to the celebration of German folk culture and traditions during Mayfests, German Heritage fests and Oktoberfests may be found in the Cultural Center’s program.
The Cultural Center offers German tutoring by professional instructors. It is a German cultural and informational resource for those interested in learning and keeping fluent ones German language skills. Please contact Susanne Nielsen at 813-254-5088

Wer im Sommer in die Schweiz kommt , kann beim fest zum 1. August zwar viele hubsche Trachten sehen, besonders in der berner Gegend aber erst nach der Ernte den Sport den man ein ganz kleines bisschen mit den bewegungen eines Golfers vergleichen koennte. Dass allerdings der "Ball", im Feld mit 300 und mehr Stundenkilometern in die Luft geschwungen mit einem in die Hoehe geworfenen Holzpaddel aufgehalten wird, gleicht nun gar nicht dem Golfen.
Man kann bei wikipedia sehr viel dazu lernen und am Ende unserer Sendung geht es mit Elisabeth um schweizer begriffe, die sie mir beibringen wird. Eine richtige Bernerin, der wir nun nachtraeglich einen schoenen ersten August wuenschen!

- In 1686, we see the birth of Daniel Fahrenheit in Danzig, Germany. He invented the Fahrenheit temperature scale and was the inventor of the alcohol and mercury thermometers.
- In 1854, we see the birth of Louis Alexander in Graz, Austria. He was a British Admiral of the Fleet and worked with Churchill to mobilize the British fleet going into WWI. But due to his German origins, he was forced to resign his First Sea Lord position in 1914. His grandson, Prince Philip, would someday marry Queen Elizabeth II.
- In 1910, we see the death of Robert Koch. He was a bacteriologist who discovered the causes of anthrax, tuberculosis and cholera. For his work in tuberculosis, he received the Nobel Prize for Medicine in 1905.
- In 1923, we see the birth of Henry Kissinger in Furth, Germany.
- In 1941, the German battleship Bismarck is sunk by British naval forces.
- In 1952, East Germany cuts phone service to West Berlin. West Berliner's are no longer allowed into East Germany.
- And in 1988, we see the death of Ernst Ruska in West Berlin. He won the Nobel prize for Physics for his invention of the electron microscope.
