interview with German Pianist Markus Groh . During the rehearsal
she also said hello to Maestro Sanderling who spent the afternoon rehearsing
with the Florida Orchestra for his final three days performance in the three
Tampa Bay concert halls of a concert that includes Sibelius and of course the
powerful first Bartok piano concerto . ( an encore presentation of the interview Susanne had with Maestro Sanderling can be heard at the end of today's show)
Groh and Sanderling who
have performed a number of times here in the past ten years Maestro Sanderling has lead the Florida orchestra, and elsewhere conclude
their work in this concert of unusual choices, the Bartok for Groh a true
premiere although he has performed Bartok’s second and third piano
concertos in years past.

The HEIMATABEND event on Saturday is a German Cultural Evening commencing at 6 p.m. setting off this all German American weekend. Admission: $32 for members; $37 for non-members; ticket includes a full German dinner and two drink tickets. The Europa Band will be playing for everyone’s enjoyment.
On Sunday (German Heritage Day) doors will open at 11:00 a.m. Admission: $27 for members and $32 for non-members.

the Parade of Flags and planned entertainment commencing at 1 p.m.;

Hoeren Sie gleich unser Interview mit dem klassischen
Pianisten Markus Groh, der sich intensiv mit Musik, aber auch sehr
philosophisch mit dem Leben auseinandersetzt. Das spuehrt man auf der Buehne,
aber auch in passionierter Unterhaltung, die sicherlich fuer alle Themen gilt,
die man anschneidet, besonders aber wenn es um das eigene Leben und die der
naechsten Generation geht. Die siebenjaehrige Tochter und der elfjaehrige Sohn
nehmen an dem musikalischen Leben des vaters teil, wenn auch nicht vor Ort,
sondern eher zuhause in Berlin.
In Tampa ist er in einem warmen Fruehling, und fuer ein
grosses Finale eines seiner Lieblingsdirigenten, Stefan Sanderling. Das Konzert
ist eine nach Grohs Einschaetzung ungewoehnliche musikalische
Zusammenstellung von Bartoks 1. Klavier concerto und einem Sibelius und
ausserdem einem weiteren Stueck des 20 Jahrhunderts.
Groh spielt hierbei eine ebenso wichtige Rolle wie
Sanderling, der nun offiziell sein letztes Konzert mit dem Florida Orchester
dirigiert . Florida und die Stellung seiner Frau als Cellistin am Sarasota
Orchester werden fuer Sanderling weiterhin den ersten Wohnsitz ausmachen, “Sie
wohnen doch auch hier” meinte er liebenswuerdig zu seiner Wahlheimat. Sowohl
sein Engagement in Tanglewood als auch eine kleine Auszeit in Italien haben
daran nicht geaendert. Und die Zusammenarbeit mit Groh, dessen Virtuositaet weitere
Zusammenarbeit an anderen Orten sicherlich bringen wird, bringen Sanderlings
ausgezeichnete Arbeit mit dem Orchester zu einem wuerdigen Abscluss.
Vielleicht ist hier auch das Ende des ausgezeichneten
Musikkritikers John Flemming, dessen Rezensionen immer auf die Note stimmten
ebenso das Zeichen, dass nun mit der Nachfolge Sanderlings eine neue Zeit
anbricht.
Freuen Sie sich auf Sanderling und Groh, auf Bartok und
Sibelius interpretation und immer eine Ueberraschung mehr.

mich nochmals bei Markus Groh fuer das interessante Gespraech bedanken , wie
auch fuer die netten Begegnungen hinter der Buehne, woe s nicht nur um Musik,
sondern auch um das Leben, und Hobbies wie Kaffeeroesten und anders mehr geht,
immer mit dem Ziel eine kurze Pause zu machen, aber diese Zeit ebenso wertvoll
auszunutzen. Und dann ist es Zeit die Instrumente einzupacken, kleine koffer
fuer die Picolofloete, und enorme Schrankkoffer fuer die Percusiven
Instrumente. Fuer sie alle ist die wichtigste Begegnung an den drei
Abenden des kommenden Wochenendes, mit einander und mit ihrem Publikum. Bravo!

Er passt in diese 20er Jahre, der Film, den Sie bald im Kino
sehen werden, "Enemy" heist er mit Jake Gyllendal, ( ab diesem Wochende im Tampa Theatre) und man darf sagen , dass er
futuristisch und bizarre in ausgezeichnetes Stueck Kino ist, wie ehedem Bunuel
und Kafka fuer Literatur. Wir sind wieder an dem Zeitpunkt angelangt, wo

bereits gross gefeiert und seit einer Woche im Kino) und auch die Geschichte
“Enemy”, fragt sich ob das nicht fuer uns selbst gilt , gemeinsam. Wenn diese
beiden neuen Filme und eine neuer Vielteiler, "Divergence" , wo es ebenfalls um
Intelligenz geht, und Kreativitaet und Flexibilitaet, Indikatoren der neuen
Kinolandschaft sind, dann duerfen wir uns alle freuen. Gehen Sie ins Kino und
lassen Sie sich ueberraschen, und fordern und von Surrealem einfach
“auffressen”, oder?

Bill's Moment in German Cultural History
Bill Davidson
In 1845, we see the birth of Wilhelm Roentgen. He was a German
physicist who on Nov 8,1895 produced and detected electromatic radiation in a
wavelength range today known as x-rays. This achievement earned him the first
Nobel Prize for physics in 1901.
In 1882, Robert Koch announced before the Physicological Society
of Berlin that he had isolated the tubercule bacillus, the cause of
tuberculosis.He received the Nobel Prize in 1905 in Medicine for these
findings.
In 1912, we see the birth of Werner Von Braun. Braun was a German
born rocket scientist, aerospace engineer, space architect and one of the
leading figures in the development of rocket technology in Germany and the
United States.
In 1941, we see the birth of Bruno Ganz in Zurich, Switzerland. He
is a theatre,stage and film actor. In 1996, Gants received the mysterious
Iffland ring from Joseph Meinrad, which is given to the most important actor of
German speaking theatre in the past 200 years.

The Florida Orchestra Announces Limited On-Stage Seating at Select Masterworks Concerts Kicking Off at Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1 on Nov. 8, 9 & 10
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – October 22, 2013 – The Florida Orchestra (TFO) has announced that it will offer limited on-stage seating at ten of this season’s Tampa Bay Times Masterworks concerts starting with Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1 on November 8, 9 and 10 in Tampa, St. Petersburg and Clearwater. Priced at $75 for on-stage seating, the number of concertgoers that can be accommodated at each performance ranges from three to ten, depending on the music being presented, as each piece requires different numbers of musicians and specific orchestra configurations on stage.
TFO Chairman Tom Farquhar said, “We are continually exploring ways to reach out to the community, make the orchestra more accessible and enhance that experience for concertgoers. We hope this new initiative will provide an opportunity for more adventuresome music lovers to see and hear a concert from our musicians’ unique perspective. The on-stage seating option will also give people a glimpse into the backstage area of what goes on just prior to a concert as well as some of the preparations musicians are making just before going on stage to perform.”
Evening Masterworks Concerts with On-Stage Seating:
- Mar 21-23: Bartok’s Piano Concerto No. 1
- Apr 11-13: Mozart, Diamond & Brahms
- Apr 25-27: Tan Dun’s Water Concerto
- May 16-18: Tchaikovsky’s Pathetique
The ticket prices for reserved seats in the halls for Masterworks are $15, $30 and $45. The on-stage seating price is $75 for those who would like to be alongside the musicians, enjoy a head-on view of the conductor leading the orchestra and get a musician’s view of the concert hall.
Reservations are available by phone at 727.892.3337 or 1.800.662.7286, and at The Florida Orchestra Ticket Center located in the St. Petersburg College Building at 244 2nd Avenue North (main floor) in downtown St. Petersburg. Business hours are Monday through Friday from 9am to 5pm and Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 3pm.
