Kulturspiegel September 30, 2012: Neue Deutsche Handelskammer und Tag der Deutschen Einheit, 3.Oktober

Guests of Honor at German Chamber Event: (from left)  Dr. Bauer,P.A., German Consul General Countess Kendeffy, Honorary Consul Brock Landers, president Max Planck Institute Florida Dr. Claudia Hillinger, Head of the Economics Department of the German Embassy in Washington D.C.

Three days from today, in 1989 the Berlin Wall , which had separated  Germans for 40 years, and had fallen in 1989, lead to the reunification of what was once a divided  Germany. October 3rd is now celebrated  as Germany’s national holiday.

In the US,  October 6th is German-American Day. President Ronald Reagan first proclaimed this Day a celebration of German contributions to the United States where today 60 million German Americans claim German heritage and roots.

In 2012 Florida is proud to have over 60 German companies in the Tampa Bay area alone. Welcoming German investment in the sunshine state, a new Florida branch of the German American Chamber of Commerce was opened in September 2012.

Today’s show brings you the speeches of those who made it all happen!

                                         Barockes Haus

-  In 1452,  Johann Guttenberg prints his first book, the Bible, at his workshop in Mainz, Germany.

-  in 1882, we see the birth of Hans Geiger.  He was a physicist, who invented the Geiger Counter.

-  In 1913, we see the passing of Rudolf Diesel.  Diesel was an engineer who developed the engine that bears his name.

-  In 1921, we the the passing of Engelbert Humperdinck in Neustrelitz Germany.  He was an opera composer.  Among his works is the opera Hansel and Gretel.

KINOKINOKINO
Tampa Theatre in Tampa
Unbedingt sehen!
historischen Theater , unbedingt besuchen, www.tampatheatre.org.

Weiterhin sehenswert: Arbitrage, Lawless, und vielleicht auch The Queen of Versailles.Trouble with the Curve?

                                                                    Balancing on Chairs

The equipment is as simple as it gets: eight chairs and a pedestal. But in this act, the artist uses them to create a 23-foot tower on which to perform a balancing act that displays the human body at the very peak of condition and muscular control.
For the first time in 7 years Cirque du Soleil returns to St. Petersburg
 With a big top production

KOOZA   Opens November 8, 2012 for a limited engagement Under the white Big Top at Tropicana Field
St Petersburg, FL – Aug. 31, 2012- Cirque du Soleil is thrilled to return to St Petersburg with its big top production, KOOZA. The critically-acclaimed show opens Thursday, November 8 for a limited engagement under the white Big Top at Tropicana Field.

Since its premiere in April of 2007, KOOZA has charmed close to 4 million spectators in North America and Japan. KOOZA will be the 4th big top production to visit the area since 2002.
Tickets are available online at cirquedusoleil.com/kooza.
 About KOOZA
Written and directed by David Shiner, KOOZA is a return to the origins of Cirque du Soleil that combines two circus traditions – acrobatic performance and the art of clowning. The show highlights the physical demands of human performance in all its splendor and fragility, presented in a colorful mélange that emphasizes bold slapstick humor.
The name KOOZA is inspired by the Sanskrit word “koza,” which means “box,” “chest” or “treasure,” and was chosen because one of the underlying concepts of the production is the idea of a “circus in a box.”
“KOOZA is about human connection and the world of duality, good and bad,” Shiner said. “The tone is fun and funny, light and open. The show doesn’t take itself too seriously, but it’s very much about ideas, too. As it evolves we are exploring concepts such as fear, identity, recognition and power.”
The show starts with The Trickster bursting onto the scene like a jack-in-a-box right in front of The Innocent, and that is just the first of many surprises to follow. The Innocent’s journey brings him into contact with a panoply of comic characters such as the King, the Trickster, the Heimloss, the Pickpocket, the Obnoxious Tourist and his Bad Dog.
Between strength and fragility, laughter and smiles, turmoil and harmony, KOOZA is set in an electrifying and exotic visual world.

                                                               Charivari

The House Troupe burst into action at the top of the show. The act highlights include human pyramids, bodies flying through the air and a “crash bash”—a daring dive into a circle of fabric inspired by the “Nalukauq,” the traditional Inuit game of “Blanket Toss” and the landing mats used by firefighters.
