In unserer heutigen Sendung soll es rund um den deutschen Spargel gehen. Gaby Grolich von den "Darmstaedter Tonbandfreunden" erzaehlt von ihren Erlebnissen als Spargelverkaeuferin. Dieser Bericht wurde uns von Herrmann Terjung zur Verfuegung gestellt, mit dem die Deutsche Funksendung jahrelang eine enge Zusammenarbeit verband , und mit dem wir im Austausch Sendungen fuer sehbehinderte Hoerer machten und zwischen Darmstadt und Florida austauschten.

Spargelzeit - Eine Geschichte zum zum Thema Verkauf
Vom Spargel und Spargelverkauf
Der weisse Spargel , der fuer Deutschland so typisch ist und dessen Felder aus langen braunen Huegelchen bestehen, die man in den Landstrichen wie Alfter bei Bonn besonders gut erkennt und dann im lokal von besonderen Speisekarten bestellt, ist das, was man oft mit Neukratoffeln, und Erdbeeren als Nachtisch im Ausland vermissen mag. Spargelkremsuppe, ein pfund Spargel pro person auf dem Teller mit viel zerlassener Butter serviert, dazu gekochten schinken, der wenig slazig, aber sicher auch weniger haltbar ist, und zum Abschluss erdbeeren auf Eis oder mit viel schlagsahne.
In den USA findet man auch ab und zu weissen Spargel, aber dieser kommt meist aus Peru. Dass die erdbeeren in Florida aus Plant City kommen, wo man im Februar bereits erntet und nach denen ein ganzes fest genannt, plant City strawberry festival, wird, die restliche Zeit des Jahres aber diese roten Koestlichkeiten aus Kalifornien kommen, weiss man wenn man die Etiketten aufmerksam liest. Die unter Floridas Sonne gereiften beeren , in Amerika ja wegen ihrer lagerung Stroh-beeren genannt, sind natuerluich die suessesten!

Gemüsespargel kommt wild in Mittel- und Südeuropa, Vorderasien, dem westlichen Sibirien und Nordafrika vor. In Süd- und Nordamerika sowie in Neuseeland kommt er stellenweise eingebürgert vor. Ob die schon von mittelalterlichen Autoren erwähnten Bestände auf Kies- und Sandbänken von Rhein, Main und Donau echte Wildvorkommen sind oder auf Verwilderungen zurückgehen, ist unklar. Verwilderter Spargel findet sich in Mitteleuropa auf trockenen, mäßig nährstoffreichen Standorten, auf Dämmen, an Wegrändern, in Dünen und in (ruderalen) Trockenrasen.
Spargel ist als Gemüse und Heilpflanze seit langem bekannt. In China wurden die Stangen des Spargels vor über 5000 Jahren schon gegen Husten, Blasenprobleme und Geschwüre verordnet. Die Ägypter verwendeten ihn vor 4.500 Jahren, Griechen und Römer kannten ihn bereits im 2. Jahrhundert v. Chr. Der römische Autor Columella erwähnt ihn in seinem Buch De re rustica. Als Heilpflanze diente bevorzugt wildwachsender Spargel, der schon bei Hippokrates von Kos erwähnt wurde und nach Dioskurides harntreibend und abführend wirken sowie gegen Gelbsucht helfen sollte. Mit diesen Indikationen wurde er bis ins 19. Jahrhundert verwendet.
Die Römer machten den Spargel auch nördlich der Alpen bekannt, er geriet aber wieder in Vergessenheit. Erst im 16. Jahrhundert ist der Anbau wieder belegt – Spargel galt damals als teure Delikatesse, vermutlich wegen seinem geringen Nährwert und da der Anbau sehr aufwändig war.
Früher war die Wurzel amtlich als Heilmittel anerkannt (offizinell); die Samen wurden als Kaffeesurrogat verwertet.
Spargel benötigt Wärme und lockeren, sandigen, nicht zu feuchten Boden. Zur Anlage der Spargelbeete hebt man vor Eintritt des Winters die Erde einen Spatenstich tief aus, gräbt Mist unter, setzt ein- bis zweijährige Spargelpflanzen (Klauen) ein und bedeckt sie mit Erde. Im darauffolgenden Herbst werden die Stängel gekürzt und das Beet mit reifem Mist bedeckt. Im Frühjahr wird das Gröbere fortgenommen und der Rest mit Erde mehrere Zentimeter hoch bedeckt. Im dritten Jahr erhöht man die Beete mit fetter, sandiger Erde so stark, dass die Pflanzen eine Hand breit tief liegen. Jetzt kann mit der Ernte begonnen werden. Die Beete geben bei richtiger Pflege und Düngung mit Mist, Jauche, Asche und Kalidünger bis zu zehn Jahre guten Ertrag.
In letzter Zeit wird Spargel immer häufiger auf „normalen“ Böden kultiviert. Er gedeiht auf jedem normalen Garten- oder Feldboden, selbst wenn dieser schwer oder lehmig ist, sofern der Boden gelockert wird, keine Staunässe aufweist und genügend Kalk enthält (pH 7,0). Notfalls wird etwas herbeigeholter Sand in den zu schweren Boden eingearbeitet. Kenner behaupten, dass Spargel von nährstoffreichen schwereren Böden eine stärkere, selten strengere Geschmacksnote ausbildet.Quelle benötigt
Wenn die Witterung warm und feucht ist, kann Spargel bis zu sieben Zentimeter am Tag wachsen. Durch Aufhäufeln der Erde bei der Spargelzucht bleiben die Triebe auch bei einer Länge von 20 Zentimetern hell, da sie ohne Licht kein Chlorophyll bilden können. Diese kleinen Erdwälle werden im süddeutschen und österreichischen Sprachgebiet als Bifang bezeichnet. Der so gezogene Spargel wird Weißer Spargel genannt und ist erst seit Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts bekannt. Bis dahin wurde nur Grüner Spargel geerntet, der nicht durch Erde vor dem Sonnenlicht geschützt wird und in voller Länge kräftig grün gefärbt ist. Vor allem in Frankreich wartet man, bis der Schössling etwas aus der Erde ragt und die Spitze eine leicht violett-grünliche Färbung annimmt. Diese Variante heißt violetter Spargel. Im professionellen Anbau werden für Weißen und Grünen Spargel unterschiedliche Sorten verwendet.
Die Spargelstangen werden in Handarbeit einzeln geerntet. Meist anhand von kleinen Erdrissen erkennt der Erntearbeiter den knapp unter der Oberfläche austreibenden Spargel und gräbt ihn mit den Fingern auf, um den geeigneten Punkt zum Abtrennen am unteren Ende des Spargels zu finden. Nach dem „Stechen“ (Abtrennen der Spargelstange durch stoßartigen Schnitt mit einem speziellen länglichen Spargelmesser/Spargelstechmesser oder Spargelstecher, Braunschweiger Form) wird das Erdloch wieder zugedeckt und die Oberfläche geglättet. Zum Schutz vor Lichteinfall auf schon ausgetriebene Spargelspitzen, der die Köpfe verfärben würde, und um bessere Wärmebedingungen für das Wachstum zu geben, werden die Spargeldämme heute oft mit einer dunklen Plastikfolie abgedeckt, die während des Stechens mit einer Erntehilfevorrichtung partiell angehoben und wieder aufgelegt wird. Die Spargel werden anschließend im Betrieb mit einer Spargelsortiermaschine nach Qualitäten getrennt und an Großhändler weitergegeben oder direkt verkauft.
Da sich die Spargelernte kaum automatisieren lässt, ist sie sehr personalintensiv. In Deutschland wird sie traditionell von gering bezahlten Saisonarbeitern ausgeführt, seit dem Fall der Mauer meist von polnischen oder osteuropäischen Hilfskräften....
Das Ende der Spargelsaison beschreiben althergebrachte Bauernregeln: „Stich den Spargel nie nach Johanni.“ oder „Kirschen rot, Spargel tot“. Ihr offizielles Ende in Deutschland ist traditionellerweise der 24. Juni, der Johannistag. Der Hintergrund für diese Bauernregel ist die Einhaltung einer ausreichenden Regenerationszeit der Pflanze für eine ertragreiche Ernte im nächsten Jahr. Wurde die Spargelsaison aufgrund günstiger Witterungsumstände eher begonnen, so ziehen die Bauern das Ernteende oftmals um ein bis zwei Wochen vor.

Tampa Theatre mit neuem Digital Bild und Ton!
Von deutschen Filmen , von Sommerfilmen und von nostalgischen Filmen soll heute die Rede sein.
Auch wenn er bereits eine Woche in Sarasota lief als er endlich nach Tampa kam, so ist Lore ein Film, der auch als DVD wertvoll und bestellenswert ist. Der Film wurde mit vielen Deutschen Filmfoerderungsmitteln gedreht und die junge Heldin , die talentierte Kirstin Rosendahl spielt die heranwachsende Tochter eines hohen Offiziers in schwarzer Uniform,verantwortlich fuer die schlimmsten Greueltaten und seiner Strafe am Kriegsende entgegensehend. Dass die aus Hamburg mit preussischen Idealen und der Mutterpflicht fuer ihre fuenf Kinder stammende Ehefrau ihre Kinder verlaesst um ihrem Mann ins vermeintliche Schicksal eines amerikanischen Gefangenenlagers folgt, ist sicherlich typisch fuer die erste Zeit nach dem verlorenen Krieg.
Nur die Kinder bleiben rat-und richtungslos zurueck. Schnell setzen Hunger und Ueberlebenswille ein, nimmt die aelteste Sschwester ihre Geschwister auf eine Flucht nach Norden, angewiesen von der Mutter zur Grossmutter nach Hamburg ins Wattmeer in Sicherheit zu fahren, von Zuegen ist die Rede, einfach schien es in der Erklaerung. Aber Tod,Gefahr, und Chaos ist aber ueberall. Die Kinder, das Baby, die Zwillinge und die kleine Schwester finden Hilfe in einem jungen Mann, der all das verkoerpert , was die Eltern und die Regierung sie zu hassen gelehrt hatten. Aber bald ist er der einzige, der noch zu ihnen haelt und so arangiert man sich. Da ist Konfrontation, und Ernuechterung. Es gibt keine heile welt. Die Alliierten zeigen an Plakatwaenden anhand von Dokumentarfotos von den Deutschen dereinst stolz selber dokumentierten Greueltaten, da ist Ablehnung und auch einmal Gutmuetigkeit, da ist erwachenedes Verlangen der jungen Frau, des jungen Mannes. Da geht es um Leben und Tod. Aber da ist auch das Ende der Illusion und ganz zum Schluss das Erwachen in einer Welt, in der der Irrtum zur Erkenntnis fuehrt, darin liegt die groesste Strafe ueberhaupt. Man hofft aber auch, dass es ein Tor in eine Welt oeffnet, in der es einen Neubeginn auf den Truemmern unglaublichen Geschichte geben muss.

The Hunting Game: Hierbei geht es um ein Buch und den Dokumentarfilm zu Vergaewaltigungen auf College/Uni kampussen. Diese sind meist mit Festen in den Studentenvereinigungshaeusern ( frat houses) verwoben, und der "Machokultur", die hier gefoerdert und von den Unis tolleriert wird, und jetzt endlich haben Opfer gesetzliche Unterstuetzung in den USA, denn die Universitaeten muessen ein sicheres Lernforum bieten, tun sie dies nicht, so verstossen sie gegen das Gestz. Dies hat unlaengst zwar nicht zu der Entlassung gewalttaetiger Sport helden der Uni gefuehrt, jedoch zu der Verbannung einiger bekannter Studentenvereinigungen.

Ben Stiller ist aus Filmen bekannt, die ihn meist in eine Fantasiewelt transportieren, ihn deshalb in eine Wirklichkeit des 40ers mit einer ebenso abgeklaerten Partnerin zu entsenden, gibt uns die Chance das Talent dieses Schauspielers ohne den ueblichen Zirkus zu erleben.
Ben Stiller ist aus Filmen bekannt, die ihn meist in eine Fantasiewelt transportieren, ihn deshalb in eine Wirklichkeit des 40ers mit einer ebenso abgeklaerten Partnerin zu entsenden, gibt uns die Chance das Talent dieses Schauspielers ohne den ueblichen Zirkus zu erleben.
Die Geschichte eines kinderlosen Paares in New York, beide in intellektuellen Umfeldern taetig, er lehrt an der Uni, sie arbeitet als Produzentin fuer ihren Vater, einen angesehenen Dokumentarfilmer.
Und hierin liegt das Problem besonders fuer Ben, der die Erwartungen der anderen, sei es seinen zehnjaerigen fast fertigen eigenen Dokumentarfilm nicht zuende zu bringen, seinen Produzenten nicht bezahlen zu koennen, noch mit seiner Frau ein Baby zu haben, einfach nicht erfuellen kann. Aus Angst vor dem Miserfolg enttaeuscht er hadernd alle, seinen Schwiegervater ,einem potenziellen Investor, seine Frau.
Und da kommt ein junges Paar wie zufaellig in seine Vorlesung, wickelt ihn und seine Frau in einen romantischen Flirt mit Jugend, scheinbarer Spontanietaet und vor allem dem Ziel wichtig zu ein, gebraucht zu werden. Ben gibt alles, und erkennt zu spaet, dass dies alles ein Spiel mit seinem Ego ist. Zu sich zu finden, auch wenn von vorne anfangen und muss, ist nicht die schlechteste Lehre, die man aus diesem Film mitnehmen kann.
Die Zuschauerin, die weinend meinte, der Film sei "too real" kann man eigentlich nur beglueckwuenschen.
Denn uns den Spiegel vorzuhalten ist ein Kunststueck , das nicht viele Filme schaffen.
Danny Collins: Ein weiterer Film, in dem Al Pachino gerade als Hauptdarsteller seine Starqualitaet wie immer beweist, ist Danny Collins. Tatsache ist ein um viele Jahre spaeter gefundener Brief von John Lennon, der in Sammlerkreisen gehabdelt wurde, den der junge Kuenstler aber erst spaeter lesen konnte.
Diese Praemisse laesst den alternden Rockstar Danny Collins, man denke sich einen in die Jahre gekommenen Neil Diamond vielleicht, sein Leben umkrempeln. Er sagt seine Tournee erst einmal ab, weil er zu dem autentischen jungen Mann, der er einst war, zurueckfinden will.
Und seinen im Rausch einer Party fezeugten Sohn endlich in die Augen sehen, mit Frau und Enkelkind...
Aber er kann sich nicht verleugnen als die Persona, die er in diesen vielen Jahren mit all seinem Glanz ohne viel Substanz geworden ist, und schaemt sich fuer den Versuch nun noch einmal einen Anfang machen zu muessen.
Sein Publikum traegt ihn und damit lebt es sich noch immer gut.
Aber die Ansaetze einer ihm bis hierhin unbekannten Menschlichkeit, zu akzeptieren, dass seine Gespielin nur einen Sugardaddy braucht und sein Sohn ziemlich sauer ist, mit eigenen Problemen bis dahin ohne Vater dazustehen. Und eine Frau, die ihn mal nicht nur verehrt, weil er der Star war und immernoch spielen mag.
In Danny Collins sind alle und besondrs der blonde Wildfang mit AdHd , die kleine Enkelin absolut liebenswert, ein Blick in diese Leben lohnt und macht einen wirklich gluecklich. Ja, wirklich, Sherry Baby...
Furious 7 : Nicht ganz so rasant in der Story wie die waghalsigen Manoever, die einen abolut unglaeubig staunen lassen. Dom findet seine Braut und diese sucht nach ihrem gedaechtnis, schoen , dass nach allem auch Paul noch diesen letzten Film trotz seines fruehen unerwarteten Todes noch zuende machen konnte, mit Hilfe der Technik und seiner Brueder als Doubles.
Still Alice soll sehr gut sein, Alzheimers als Thema. Julianne Moore mit Oscar-wuerdiger Leistung. Jeden beruehrt dieses Thema.

Sarasota Opera Announces 2015 Season and
"HD at the Opera House" Series
Season to include productions of Opera, Ballet, and Theater from Around the World
Sarasota, FL - Sarasota Opera is pleased to announce the line-up for the 2015 season of "HD at the Opera House". This series, which debuted in 2014 and more than quadrupled its projected income goal in its first year, has allowed Sarasota Opera to expand its programming from the fall and winter season to year-around. In addition to opera, the 2015 series will include ballet and theater from some of the world's most famous venues. All showings will occur in the William E. Schmidt Opera Theatre at the Sarasota Opera House.
"We could not be more pleased with the response from the community for this program,” says Executive Director Richard Russell. "We believe our patrons will enjoy this season’s expanded lineup of operas, plays, and ballet from around the world."

ABOUT SARASOTA OPERA
Based in Florida’s beautiful Gulf Coast, Sarasota Opera is approaching its 55th consecutive season. In 1960, the company began presenting chamber-sized repertoire in the historic 320-seat Asolo Theater on the grounds of Sarasota’s Ringling Museum of Art. Recognizing the need for a theater more conducive to opera, the company purchased the former A.B. Edwards Theater in downtown Sarasota in 1979 and first performing in it in 1984 as the Sarasota Opera House. The theater has just undergone a $20-million renovation and rehabilitation enhancing audience amenities, while updating the technical facilities including increasing the size of the orchestra pit. The theater, which reopened in March 2008, has been called “one of America’s finest venues for opera” by Musical America.
Since 1983 the company has been under the artistic leadership of Victor DeRenzi. Since then the company has garnered international attention with its Masterwork Revivals Series, which presents neglected works of artistic merit, as well as the Verdi Cycle producing the complete works of Giuseppe Verdi. Recognizing the importance of training, Maestro DeRenzi founded the Apprentice Artist and Studio Artist programs. Sarasota Opera also maintains a commitment to education through its Invitation to Opera performances for local schools and the unique Sarasota Youth Opera program.

Tampa Bay Times Masterworks Series
2014/15 season highlights include Orff’s Carmina Burana, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 4, Rimsky-Korsakov’s Scheherazade, Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 4, Rachmaninoff’s Symphonic Dances, Holst’s The Planets, Brahms’ Symphony No. 4 and Dvorak’s Symphony No. 9, to mention a few. In addition, concertgoers will have the opportunity to hear many star guest soloists, including violinists Midori and Karen Gomyo and pianists Peter Serkin, Pascal Rogé, Jeremy Denk and William Wolfram. TFO featured soloists on the Masterworks series include Jeffrey Multer, concertmaster, Robert Rearden, principal horn, and Anthony Georgeson, principal bassoon.
Guest Conductors:
As the search process continues for TFO’s next music director, an extraordinary array of conductors will lead the orchestra next season, including these TFO debuts: Roberto Abbado, the former chief conductor of the Munich Radio Orchestra and artistic partner to the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, and Bulgarian Danail Rachev, music director of the Eugene Symphony in Oregon. In addition, there are nine returning guest conductors on the Masterworks series. These include the music director of both the Memphis Symphony Orchestra and the Chicago Sinfonietta Mei-Ann Chen; chief conductor and artistic advisor to Sweden’s Norrköping Symphony Orchestra Michael Francis; music director of the New West Symphony Orchestra in Los Angeles and associate conductor of the Boston Symphony Orchestra Marcelo Lehninger; associate conductor of the Philadelphia Orchestra Cristian Macelaru; former music director of the Orchestre Symphonique et Lyrique de Nancy in France Tito Muñoz; music director of the Rhode Island Philharmonic Larry Rachleff; former music director of the Seattle Symphony Gerard Schwarz; associate conductor of the Hong Kong Philharmonic Perry So; and assistant conductor of the New York Philharmonic Joshua Weilerstein.
Guest Artists:
Pianist Jeremy Denk makes his TFO debut in Bartók’s Piano Concerto No. 3. Returning pianists include Peter Serkin in Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 1, Pascal Rogé in Saint-Saens’ Piano Concerto No. 2 and William Wolfram in Copland’s Piano Concerto. TFO vocalist debuts include soprano Elizabeth Caballero, and baritone Cameron McPhail in Orff’s Carmina Burana and soprano Talise Trevigne in Barber’s Knoxville: Summer of 1915. Featured violin soloists include Jennifer Koh in Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto, along with the return engagements of Karen Gomyo in Mozart’s Violin Concerto No. 5, “Turkish” and TFO concertmaster Jeffrey Multer in Barber’s Violin Concerto. Additional soloists include TFO principal horn Robert Rearden in Richard Strauss’ Horn Concerto No. 2 and TFO principal bassoon Anthony Georgeson in Mozart’s Bassoon Concerto.
The Master Chorale of Tampa Bay:
Under the leadership of music and artistic director James Bass, The Master Chorale of Tampa Bay will join the orchestra for three masterworks programs on the 2014/2015 season: Orff’s Carmina Burana and Faure’s Requiem. In addition, the women’s chorus of The Master Chorale will perform for Holst’s The Planets. A highly select, 150-voice, all-volunteer chorus of singers from the entire Tampa Bay area, The Master Chorale has performed and premiered many symphonic choral works under the direction of Stefan Sanderling, Jahja Ling, Robert Shaw, John Nelson, Julius Rudel, founding music director emeritus Robert Summer and Jo-Michael Schiebe. The chorale has also performed abroad at London’s Westminster Cathedral and King’s College Chapel in Cambridge, among other locales. Designated in 1989 as the principal chorus of TFO, some of its most recent performances with the orchestra include Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9, Delius’s Sea Drift and Appalachia (recorded live in concert on the Naxos label in 2012), Vaughan Williams’ Dona Nobis Pacem, Dvorak’s Requiem, Schubert’s Mass No. 6, Verdi’s Requiem, Mendelssohn’s Elija, Haydn’s The Creation and Mahler’s second and third symphonies. The Chorale will also perform Ravel’s Daphnis et Chloé in the full ballet score version to close the orchestra’s 2013/14 season.
MUSIC AND ARTISTIC DIRECTOR JAMES BASS: Dr. James K. Bass, Grammy-nominated singer and conductor, is the director of choral studies in the School of Music at the University of South Florida (USF) and the artistic and music director of The Master Chorale of Tampa Bay. At USF, he conducts the University Chamber Singers, Collegium and the Collegiate Singers, in addition to teaching graduate and undergraduate courses in choral conducting, philosophy, and literature. Previously, he was on the faculty at Western Michigan University and the University of Central Florida in Orlando. Bass received the doctor of musical arts degree from the University of Miami–Florida, where he was a doctoral fellow. He received his Master of Music and Bachelor of Science degrees from USF and is a graduate of the Interlochen Arts Academy.
Bass was selected by the master conductor of the Amsterdam Baroque Soloists, Ton Koopman, to be one of only 20 singers for a presentation of Cantatas by J.S. Bach in Carnegie Hall, and was an auditioned member of Robert Shaw’s workshop choir at Carnegie Hall. He is one of 13 singers on the Grammy-nominated disc A Seraphic Fire Christmas. Bass is an active bass soloist and has performed at Winchester Cathedral in London, has sung three world-premieres of large works, and appears on CD recordings on the Albany and Seraphic Fire Media label. As a bass soloist, he has appeared with the New World Symphony under the direction of Michael Tilson Thomas, as well as with TFO, Grand Rapids Symphony, Back Bay Chorale and Orchestra, and Firebird Chamber orchestra.
Bass is a bass member and chorus master for Seraphic Fire, the Miami-based professional choir, and was appointed choirmaster for the Classical Music Festival in Eisenstadt, Austria. During the summer of 2011, he co-founded the Professional Choral Institute at the University of South Florida. In its inaugural year of recording, Seraphic Fire and PCI received the Grammy nomination for Best Choral performance for their recording of Johannes Brahms' Ein Deuthches Requiem. He has prepared choirs for Sir Colin Davis, Sir David Willcocks, Jahja Ling, Michael Tilson Thomas, Stefan Sanderling, Markus Huber and Robert Shaw. Bass has served on the Executive Board of the American Choral Directors Association Central Division as College Repertoire and Standards chairperson. His professional affiliations include the American Choral Directors Association, Music Educators National Conference, American Symphony Orchestra League, Pi Kappa Lambda national music honor society, and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia music fraternity.

Additional TFO premieres include Thomas Adès’ Three Studies from Couperin, Richard Strauss’ Horn Concerto No. 2, Haydn’s Symphony No. 98, Rimsky-Korsakov’s The Tsar’s Bride Overture and Maurice Ravel’s Ma Mère l’Oye (Mother Goose) complete ballet score.

Music director of the Rhode Island Philharmonic, Larry Rachleff brings the 2014/2015 season to a close conducting TFO in a program of Rossini’s Overture to Semiramide, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 8 and Sibelius’ monumental Symphony No. 5.
Pre-Concert Conversations
All of the Tampa Bay Times Masterworks concerts offer pre-concert conversations in each hall beginning one hour before curtain time. To provide audience members with a more enjoyable concert experience, guest conductors and artists discuss the personalities and circumstances behind the music as well as share fun and informative insights and anecdotes related to each program.
Tickets: Continued Dedication to Accessibility
At the onset of the 2011/2012 season, TFO announced a bold, mission-based accessibility initiative and lowered ticket prices for all Masterworks and Pops series concerts, simplified series packaging and diversified programming so that more people in Tampa Bay might enjoy live symphonic music. Announcing a price freeze, the orchestra will continue to offer the same affordable prices this season. Individual concert tickets for all Masterworks and Pops Series remain at $15, $30 and $45 per ticket. Other concert series ticket prices will also remain the same: Coffee Series concerts are priced from $24 to $42 each, and Rock Series concerts are priced at $35, $55 and $75 each. Venue facility fees apply to all purchases. Some restrictions apply.
Six Masterworks subscription packages are offered in packages of 14, 10, 7 and 5 pre-selected concerts. These fixed package subscriptions feature a variety of benefits including premium seating, free flexible ticket exchange privileges and other added-value amenities.
TFO also offers a “Compose Your Own” Series whereby subscribers can create customized packages by mixing and matching any combination of Masterworks and Pops concerts for just $25 per ticket. A minimum of three concerts is required and good seats are made available on a first-come, first-served basis. Fixed package benefits do not apply.
